Goa’s 12 Best Baga Beach Hotels, From 5 Star to Cheap

Choosing a good hotel at or near Baga Beach can be a challenge if you’ve never been to Goa. That’s why I created this guide. To show you the best resorts in this area, so that you can quickly and easily find the perfect place for your stay.

Note: I selected the following hotels based on location, overall quality and value for money. I’ve also made sure that each has an overwhelming amount of positive reviews – so that they’re not just resorts that I like, but also places that other people were happy to stay at.

About Baga Beach

Baga Beach is a 2 kilometer wide hub of action in North Goa. It’s located in front the small but popular town of Baga, and just north of the neighboring Calangute Beach.

Along it you’ll find a neat stretch of palm lined white sand that’s packed with seafront eateries and beach shacks providing sun loungers to customers for free.

The area is relatively compact. So wherever you choose to stay, you’ll be no more than a short stroll from the action. Also, don’t be surprised when you encounter the odd docile cow wandering along the sand amongst the tourists. That’s normal there 🙂

Water sports are big along the beach. You can try all kinds of activities such as parasailing, jet skiing and kite surfing, all at a pretty low cost (this is India).

For the night owls there’s the trendy Tito’s Lane which stretches from the center of the beach back into the main town. Here you’ll find some of the most happening nightlife in Goa, as well as restaurants serving authentic Goan and international cuisine.

It’s also worth mentioning Calangute town and beach, which is just a ten minute walk down Baga Beach. It has a similar bustling tourist vibe to Baga, in fact the two towns seem to blend into one. That said, Calangute is still a working town with a slightly more authentic Indian feel. The central area away from the beach has some good opportunities for people-watching from the many bars and cafes.

Back in Baga, every Saturday evening from November until the end of May, there’s the atmospheric Baga Night Market. It’s a great place to buy souvenirs and practice your haggling skills. The stalls are strung up with pretty lamp light and there’s often live music performances, dancing and drum circles.

The Best Luxury Hotels

These 4 resorts are some of the best options to consider when you’re looking for a luxury experience.Their starting rates range from ~5,525 INR (~$77) to ~8,000 INR (~$112) per night.

Acron Waterfront Resort

The Acron Waterfront Resort is located at the northern most point of Baga Beach and has beautiful sea and riverside views. They also have a stunning infinity pool, a spa and wellness centre, and a fitness suite.

This is my top pick for absolute luxury in the whole of North Goa, and it’s not just me; it won Trip Advisor’s Traveller’s Choice award for Goa last year.

The Baga Beach Resort

The 5 Star Baga Beach Resort is just 200 meters from the beach and close to the bustling Tito’s Lane. It has luxurious wooden cottages that overlook the sea.

Their poolside restaurant is known for its great hospitality and delicious breakfast buffet, plus there’s a gym, lush green gardens and a play area for kids.

Estrela Do Mar Beach Resort

Estrela Do Mar is one of the few resorts in Goa with its own private beach. It’s sandwiched between the southern end of the Baga Strip and the equally beautiful and action packed Calangute beach.

Their most luxurious rooms are the Grand Swiss cottages which have a high end wooden chalet feel.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Goa

DoubleTree Hilton is located slightly inland behind Baga, in the peaceful village of Arpora. Baga Beach is still within easy reach with their free regular shuttle service though.

They have a pure vegetarian restaurant serving up quality Indian and international cuisine, plus a luxury couple’s spa. The rooms overlook either the swimming pool (which looks amazing lit up at night) or the tranquil lagoon.

The Best Mid-range Hotels

These 4 hotels have an excellent balance between value for money and modern comforts. Their starting rates range from ~2,450 INR (~$35) to ~4,900 INR (~$68) per night.

Colonia Santa Maria Hotel

The seafront Colonia Santa Maria Hotel is a great option if you’re looking for a relaxed stay right in the heart of Baga town. There’s direct access to the beach via the hotel’s own private dune, and a clean and beautiful little pool. The in house restaurant serves up some of the best curries in Baga at a really reasonable price.

Cavala Seaside Resort

The best thing about Cavala is its live music scene, with bands playing retro rock and pop in the restaurant most evenings. The food is delicious too; if you’re interested in trying local Goan cuisine then this is a good choice.

Their rooms are clean, comfortable and cosy, and there’s a well kept swimming pool for guests just across the road.

Mayflower Beach Resort

The Mayflower Beach Resort is tucked away in a quiet corner of Tito’s Lane, which means it’s stumbling distance from some of the best bars in Goa 🙂

The place has a well maintained pool with a good amount of greenery around, and the rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, with impressive Portuguese-style wood carved furniture,

16 Degrees North

This stylish yet affordable hotel sits along the river, a short stroll from Baga Beach. It’s a great choice if you’re travelling with a group as they have a large suite with a terrace overlooking the waterway.

They also have a delicious breakfast buffet that changes daily, with both Indian and continental options to try.

Worth mentioning as well are their two small but well kept swimming pools, one in the courtyard and one on the rooftop, which has fabulous views.

These 4 places are easy on your wallet, while still providing good comfort and cleanliness.Their starting rates range from ~585 INR (~$8.50) to ~2450 INR (~$35) per night.

Hotel Bonanza

Hotel Bonanza is a family run hotel in the heart of town, only a short walk from the beach. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with small balconies and air conditioning.

The staff is super friendly and can give you some great advice on the local area. There’s also a handy booze shop just across the road where you can stock up on beers at bargain prices, if you feel so inclined 🙂

Riverside Regency Resort

The Riverside Regency Resort is a good option if you’re looking for a quiet and peaceful stay, away from the hustle and bustle of the main town. It’s a 15 minute walk from the beach bars and nightlife. If you don’t like to walk though, you can also rent a bike from reception at a reasonable price.

The rooms are clean and inviting, with some having balconies overlooking their large swimming pool. The hotel feels more like a mid range resort with budget prices – it’s definitely good value for money!

Bunk and Breakfast

Bunk and Breakfast Hostel is a low budget alternative to a regular hotel. It has clean and spacious dorm rooms, all with AC and attached bathrooms. The female dorms in particular are among the best in Goa.

There’s a large common area and plenty of outdoor space, so it’s a good option if you’re traveling with family or with a group of friends.

It’s located close to both Tito’s lane and the beach, yet tucked away enough to still have a chilled out, peaceful atmosphere. There’s also a shared kitchen and a children’s play area outside.

Luiza Guest House

This small hotel is a family run, no frills kind of place. The rooms are basic but comfortable, with AC available if you pay a little extra. Some rooms have a balcony and are big enough to sleep groups of 4.

The best thing about Luiza Guest House is its location; it’s surrounded by some great bars and restaurants and less than a 1 minute walk to the beach. From the terrace you can watch the sunset over the Arabian sea.

Conclusion & Summary

As you can see, your money goes a long way in Baga; even luxury resorts are relatively inexpensive when you compare them to a lot of other Asian beach destinations. And some of the budget hotels go for pocket change.

In this article I’ve only talked about places to stay in Baga itself, but if you’d like even more options it’s definitely worth checking out hotels and resorts in Calangute too. It’s just next door, no more than a short walk or taxi ride away.

From the hotels listed above, the best luxury option is The Acron Waterfront Resort for its spectacular views and awesome infinity pool. A good mid-range option is 16 Degrees North for its choice of pools, stylish decor and riverside setting.
